The Department of Information Technology oversees the techonological needs of nearly 150 employees housed in 8 different city buildings in the City of St. Pete Beach. The IT Department had previously been structured under the Finance & Technology Department. Due to emerging technology trends, it was deemed necessary to created a new department for Information Technology. It is the mission of the IT Department to collaboratively move the city toward a sound techological future. The IT Department is located on the second floor of City Hall with office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Structure
The Department of Information Technology is led by IT Director Don Burkhardt. Don has been with the city since November 2006. Previously Don served in a similar position with the City of Palmetto. The IT Director oversees a staff of two. The Desktop Technician is in charge of installing and maintaining all computer systems and peripherals; assisting with phone and audio visual needs; troubleshooting user problems; providing customer service assitance for employees and preparing records and files. The city also has a GIS operator, who is in charge of operating the city's Geographic Information System. The GIS system provides a mapped database of the city which is used for everything from planning and zoning to determining property boundaries and right of ways.

Responsibilities:
IT Director- Oversees, supervises and plans computer operations and programming; develops and purchases new applications, improving existing applications; assists user departments; installs hardware and software; provides and maintains local government technical services to our residents.

Desktop Technician- Installs and maintains computer system peripherals. Assists with phone systems and audio visual needs; troublshoots user problems; provides customer service assisatnce; prepares records and files.

GIS Operator- Coordinates the installation, configuration and operation of an automated geographic information system with participating agencies and departments; converts geographic information to digital data; maintains records and files; prepares maps
