About Flood Warnings

The City has an Emergency Management Plan and monitors all flood warnings from the National Weather Service and Pinellas County Emergency Management. When warnings are received, the Pinellas County Public Emergency Notification Systems disseminates the information to all local communities, as well as radio and television stations in our broadcast area. The City also posts information and updates on our local cable access Channel 15, if necessary. Be sure to turn on your radio and/or television when severe weather threatens. For more information, you may call the City’s Fire Chief at 363-9206.

If you receive a warning that severe weather with the potential of flooding is approaching, minimize damage to your property by turning off the gas and electricity and moving valuable contents to a safe place. If you are requested to evacuate the island, please do so. Some storm events happen with little or no warning, so a detailed checklist prepared in advance will help insure that you do not forget anything.

The Pinellas County Emergency Hotline (operational only during an actual disaster) may be reached at 727. 893.7790. You can register to receive energency information via text message by Pinellas County's Ready Alert text messaging system. Register by calling 1.888.689.8905 from the device you wish to register and entering your zip code. Once registered, you will be notified by text message on your cellular phone in an impending emergency. If you do not have free text messaging on your cell phone, you will be charged for text messages for this service. Check with your cellular provider.

Remember, practice safety during floods, and above all, don’t panic.
