Future
Land Use Policies - Hurricane preparedness
GOAL
3
The
city, in cooperation with Pinellas County and neighboring
communities, shall establish an effective and workable
hurricane evacuation plan.
Objective
3.1
Recognizing
its vulnerability to the effects of tropical storms,
the city shall maintain an up-to-date hurricane evacuation
plan.
Policy
3.1.1
Because
the entire community is located within the identified Coastal
High Hazard Area, as redefined by Rule 9J-5, Florida Administrative
Code, the city shall, to the extent practical, limit public
expenditures that subsidize development only to existing
development or new development, thus limiting population
growth, consistent with the Future Land Use Map.
Policy
3.1.2
The
Hurricane Evacuation Plan will set forth hurricane clearance
times
which will either be maintained or reduced.
Policy
3.1.3
The
risk of exposure of human life and public and private property
to natural disasters shall be reduced through preparedness
planning and implementation of hazard mitigation measures.
Policy
3.1.4
The
city shall coordinate plans for evacuation of coastal area
populations
with appropriate local or regional hurricane evacuation plans.
